Our Tea

We work hard to find and select teas from farms and cooperatives around the world, always looking for something special that will stand up on its own without blending or flavouring. That means lots of samples from all over the world and endless tastings by the team here. It is important to us that we know exactly where each tea comes from and who is responsible for harvesting and crafting the leaves we buy, so we ask lots of questions too. So if one thing is for sure, it's that none of the teas you see here have been chosen by chance. And as tea is seasonal, we will be doing this all again next year! We hope you'll love them as much as we do.

Our Team

It's not just the tea we want to get right, we care about our people too. We are lucky enough to have a team of brewers who are passionate about tea, and most importantly passionate about getting your cup of tea just right. So whether you're after a strong breakfast tea to perk you up in the morning or are looking for a particular Japanese green, our team are there to help find it, as well as help you choose the right tools to brew it more easily at home.

Our story

Having bored her friends for years about wanting to bring better cups of tea to London, Emilie, G&P's founder, finally decided to do something about it. With a dream of converting a 1974 Citroën-H van into a mobile brew bar, she took the idea to crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, where 372 backers, each of whom pledged anywhere between £1 to £1000, made that dream come true. Each of their names are still displayed proudly on the back window of the van, which the backers also affectionately christened 'Watson'.

The first cup of tea was brewed in Shoreditch on 3rd December 2012 and we haven't stopped brewing since.

Van to shop

Since our launch in 2012 we have taken our much-loved van to events & festivals across the UK, sharing our tea & attracting global press coverage as we went. But having 'popped up' all over the place, gaining then quickly abandoning a loyal following of tea-drinkers at each location, we decided it was time to find somewhere to call home. So following a second successful crowdfunding campaign, this time on Crowdcube, we have finally opened our first Good & Proper Tea Bar in Clerkenwell, as well as a kiosk in Old Street. So for those of you who have been loyally buying our tea online for years or have queued for a brew in a rainy festival field, we can't wait to welcome you in.

Quality without compromise

We work closely with experts in the industry to ensure we only buy and serve great quality, delicious tea.

We source our teas from around the world, from Kenya to India, Japan to China and many more places in between. It is important to us that we know exactly where each of them come from and who is responsible for harvesting the leaves we buy. We will always share this information with our customers.

Sharing The Excitement

We get excited about getting you excited about tea. And we are determined to make it as un-scary as possible.

As a new business, we are working towards what we hope will be an exciting future. But that means taking responsibility for what that future looks like. So from our teas to our packaging and any waste we create in brewing, we are always looking for ways to do things better.
